Cork footbeds are treated with a sealer applied during the Taos production process, which protects the exposed cork and prevents it from drying out. Taos recommends applying a thin coat of cork sealer every 3–4 months to protect your sandals from the elements. The weave is pretty durable, but avoid applying too much force when cleaning as it could discolor the straps. Let dry out of sunlight, as sunlight will cause straps to discolor.

How do I care for Taos premium and wax-treated leathers?

Premium leathers: remove any surface dirt with a soft dry cloth, then wipe again with a soft damp cloth. You can also maintain the leather with a leather cream and buff, but be aware that some shoe care products may darken or discolor leather. Tip: if using a leather cream or polish, test on a small inconspicuous area first before applying to the entire shoe. The cream will moisturize the leather and can be found online or at your local shoe shop. Wax-treated leathers: you may notice a white residue on the surface. This is simply a wax treatment used to achieve the desired distressed look on the leather rising to the surface as part of a natural process. If the wax residue appears, simply wipe your footwear with a cloth to restore the perfect look.
